PERSONALITY: Where to even start with Nora? How about her seemingly boundless energy and panache for dramatics! The fact she exists to come in and drop some of the sickest one-liners heard in the show! No? How about the fact she takes to battle with a single-minded glee that should probably be frightening from a 5'1" pink monster?

Nora is not a very complex creature: she may be a little random and indiscernible, but she's not super complex. She tends to talk with a long-winded rambling style where she'll meander her thought train all over the place, snap it from one end to the other, and then occasionally come back around in a circle to her initial idea. When she's not doing that, she has remarkably good timing for one-liners, so if there's only a little to be said, you can more or less guess it'll be some kind of well-timed joke. Whether the joke is appropriate is another story entirely.

She is bright and upbeat, cheerful and outgoing, and pretty much exactly the opposite of her best friend and longtime partner (but not like. Partner in that way partner, and boy does she seem to have some suspiciously specific denial when it comes to her relationship with him), Lie Ren. She makes friends easily - or to be more precise, it seems she just sort of shoehorns her way into groups of people like she did in the early episodes of the first RWBY season, without pause or remorse. There doesn't seem to be a lot of downtime for Nora; even when she's standing in the background, she tends to be moving or grinning or doing any number of other things. When she speaks, it's with sweeping motions and lots of body language, with a lot of energy to it. She wears her expressions very plainly on her face, and probably wouldn't be capable of lying, even if she wanted to.

Honestly, she tends to need someone to hit her brakes for her... or at least remind her that she has brakes to hit. This is usually a job taken by Ren, but she will listen to others, as well. When someone says to cut it out, she pretty much will... or at least take off in an entirely other direction, but she's not usually the type to not listen when she's overstepped some kind of boundary. She just doesn't tend to think about things that much once she gets going, and so some kind of counterbalance is usually a good thing.

For all her energy, she's not stupid. In canon, Beacon is quite the prestigious school, and it follows that only very talented, and potentially very smart people can get in (regardless of if they forged their transcripts or not, like a certain team captain of hers). What's more is, despite the fact she has been known to fall asleep in the library, she also does sit and listen to music and read books in some of her downtime. I would mention that she has some kind of keen observational ability to retort to Pyrrha telling Jaune to go after his heart with "practice what you preach", but considering a desk lamp could probably tell that Pyrrha has a crush on Jaune, it's less a result of some kind of power of observation above and beyond what normal people have and just... she does actually pay attention, for all the way her mind seems to wander and her boundless energy have her all over the place.

While fighting, however, she can stay remarkably focused for her other personality; it seems to be that, when a situation is serious, then Nora is able to be serious. There isn't usually much talking on her part (aside from a "Nora, smash!" or two while she's beating things with her hammer), and she fights with a sort of brutal efficiency that involves using her brute strength, warhammer, and occasional grenade with some pretty overwhelming force. Unfortunately, her more serious side doesn't get to come out often; either she's trying to lighten up a situation, or the series itself doesn't much allow for it (RWBY itself being a pretty lighthearted comedy, overall).

She's a dedicated friend, and has no qualms about turning things into violence if it involves protecting those friends. After all, when her team leader Jaune was being bullied, her initial reaction to how to deal with the bullies was "We'll break his legs!" She'd go through with it, too, if given the chance.

There's a few more things worth noting: She absolutely loves sweets and has been known to take down entire jars of jelly and other sweets at a time, with... little remorse. Pancakes are pretty much her favorite breakfast food of all time. She doesn't seem to like puns - she was more or less the cause of one heck of a food fight because Yang had to make a dumb pun, and Nora threw a pie, aiming at Yang, and... hit Weiss. Or maybe it's more even she has a lower threshold for dumb humor.

POWERS/ABILITIES: Nora has super strength. That's more or less the long and short of it. It's really, really hard to quantify the amount of super strength she has in canon, but she did punt someone into the air with a hammer-like object for a hang time of something like a minute and a half, so she can hit... really, really hard. She also hit a rather solid, large block of stone or concrete on one end hard enough to use it like a see-saw slingshot and propel another person across a gap.

She's very, very physically powerful. She could probably heft a car and toss it a decent distance if she had to, and smaller, less unwieldy objects are cakewalk to her. The majority of her strength seems to be focused on having the ability to hit things really, really hard with her hammer, so her rotating upper body strength is probably her best part, but she can still throw and smash and kick things pretty hard.

Going hand in hand with that, having super strength without super bone density and muscle power to withstand the sort of crap she can do with her super strength would be counterproductive, so she can also take quite a hell of a hit or two without being too bad off. It sort of makes her a tiny tank. A tiny, energetic, sweets-loving tank.

AU HISTORY: Nora is actually a New York native and American citizen. Her grandfather immigrated to the United States from Norway (hence the 'Valkyrie' surname), settled in the northeast of the US, and her family's more or less stayed that way since then. Her father was an Army engineer, and her mother a stay-at-home mom, and it wasn't as though her home life was weird.

Nora's powers began a slow manifestation from the time she was pretty young. She always seemed tougher than the other kids, and could play rough with the boys as much as they wanted to - all while loving the color pink, of course, and hearts, and other 'girly' things. Growing up, she had an especially close childhood friend, a boy by the name of Ren that was pretty much her opposite in every way. She was exploratory, and outgoing, and somewhat bullheaded, and he was calm, collected, and ready to reel her in. They made the perfect complement to each other, growing up, and Nora would have it no other way.

Growing up in New York, she heard the stories of the X-Men, and later, the Avengers, with her having a particular affinity for Thor. She decided she wanted to meet all of the heroes, because what they were doing was rather cool. Slowly, over time, she started to realize she wanted to be a hero like them, as well. Despite not realizing she was a mutant, truly, yet, she wanted to join the X-Men.

As luck would have it, the slowly building power within her was an early sign of a mutation, and after a rather unfortunate accident that ended with the rear door of her father's car being permanently bent after she picked the car up, trying to get at a toy of hers that had rolled under the tire and become partially trapped, her family had her tested. Surely enough, the diagnosis was 'mutant'.

Her mother didn't take it very well; she had been looking forward to having a normal daughter with a bright, girly future ahead of her. Her father seemed conflicted, but also saw in it an opportunity.

By the time she was preparing to enter high school, her father had begun using her strength as a way to test out new weapons prototypes and munitions. She had some interest in it, herself, though her real passion seemed to be mostly in honing her strength so she didn't end up hurting someone with it that she didn't mean to - and a few too many close calls with Ren over the years had given her a pretty specific drive. Still, after a while, she designed, and her father helped her build, one weapon for herself that rather perfectly matched her, and her personality: She called it Magnhild after much perusing of old Scandinavian words and names, a giant warhammer, made as such after Thor's Mjolnir (though hers came as a two-handed weapon) that could seamlessly transition to a grenade launcher. Or, it could launch grenades from the hammer head itself with the press of a button.

It was probably the last really good, bonding moment she had with her father before her mother's disapproval of her mutation put enough of a strain on her parents' relationship that her parents eventually separated. Shortly after that, she was pulled from enrollment at the local high school she had been slated to enter, and enrolled with the Institute, instead. Curiously, it seemed to be her mother that was more than willing to give her daughter the dream of becoming an X-Man that she really wanted.

Or maybe her mother just wanted her out of the house, but wasn't going to be too terribly cruel about it.
